Bringing the Studio to the Artists
Founded in 2018, Wheel it Studios is a mobile recording studio and multidisciplinary artist mentorship initiative developed by New Tradition Music. Rooted in Toronto’s Jane-Finch community, WIS brings professional recording equipment, artist mentors and creative opportunities directly into community spaces. Through Hip Hop, songwriting, music production, filmmaking and collaborative artistic projects, participants develop their work, share their stories and contribute to a growing catalogue of original music and media.
Our Process
Our process brings artists together to develop their ideas through Hip Hop, songwriting, music production, and recording. From the first creative session to the finished project, participants work alongside experienced artists and mentors to build skills, collaborate, and create original music.
Phase One: Connect
We collaborate with community organizations to bring recording equipment, artist mentors and virtual and in-person programming directly into community spaces.
Phase Two: Create
Participants work alongside professional artists and producers to develop an original album through songwriting, beat-making, recording and collaborative production.
Phase 3: Artistic Creation, Audience Engagement & Album Release
Participants build on their studio experience by developing original artistic projects, engaging with audiences, and taking part in the album release rollout. Through live performances, music videos, promotional activities, and community events, emerging artists gain experience sharing their work with the public and developing their artistic practice.

Music Production
Hands-on workshops in beat-making, songwriting, music theory and collaborative music production, guided by professional artists and producers.
Artist Mentorship
Participating artists work alongside experienced musicians, producers and facilitators to develop their creative practice, exchange ideas and collaborate on original projects.
Recording & Audio Engineering
Access to professional recording equipment and guidance in recording, editing, mixing and mastering original music in community spaces.
From Music Creation to Album Release
Wheel it Studios takes participants through a three-phase creative process, beginning with a 16-week drop-in program focused on songwriting, and music production. Participants then collaborate with professional artists and mentors to produce an original album, followed by graduation celebrations, live performances, artistic projects, and a public album release rollout.
Phase 1: 16-Week Drop-In Program
Our 16-week drop-in program introduces participants to Hip Hop, songwriting, beatmaking, and music production. Through hands-on sessions with experienced artists and mentors, participants explore their creativity, develop new skills, and collaborate with other emerging artists.
Phase 2: Album Production & Graduation
Building on the 16-week drop-in program, participants work alongside professional artists, producers, and engineers to develop, record, and complete an original collaborative album. The process concludes with graduation and album release events where participants share their music with family, friends, and the wider community.
